ROWING: IT may have been held in unseasonal weather - against a backdrop of snow - but Runcorn Spring Head was a big success.

For the first time ever, the event featured men's and women's eights from the host club.

The men's senior eight - Steve Dunne, Kevin Reynolds, Dave Glaves, Chris Edwards, Kevin Jones, Graham Pennington, Peter Newton and Alex Villiers and coxed by Sam Edwards - clocked 26 mins 27 secs.

Coming in at Clifton with a time of 34:35 were the women's novice crew.

Coxed by Parkinson, they were Bennett, Reynolds, Johnstone, Newton, Booth, Parkinson, Snelson and Edwards.

Liverpool University won Division One on their first outing in 20:56 while Agecroft triumphed in Division Two.

It was very much a family affair with husbands, wives and children competing alongside each other.

Eric Bennett, of Frodsham, won his Veterans E double while there were victories in quads for both son Jonathan (Junior) and daughter Emily (WJ16).
