Knutsford 0 Ellesmere Port 64

A RUTHLESS display saw the Oilers heap more misery on South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three strugglers Knutsford.

The East Cheshire outfit, leaking tries and without a win all season, were no match for Steve Dorrington’s team on Saturday, although the match was not quite as one-sided as the emphatic final scoreline suggests.

Knutsford had some reasonable periods of possession and stuck to their game-plan well.

But they were left reeling when Port scored two converted tries in the first four minutes, one each for Peter Doyle and Craig Jones, with fly-half Carbutt adding the extras.

A converted try by winger Craig Jones made it 21-0, then centre Doyle doubled his try tally for the afternoon with another score.

Carbutt missed the conversion from out wide, meaning Port – who had already begun to give their replacements a run-out – went into the half-time break with a 26-0 lead.

The visitors were soon into their stride after the restart.

From a lineout, back row Steven Jefferies crashed over with substitute fly-half Paul Millington converting to make it 33-0.

Port raced away with the game in the last 15 minutes courtesy of tries from Rob Finlay, Niall Grant and Doyle (2). Winger Jones also weighed in with the try of the match, completing a fine move which saw the ball pass through at least 10 pairs of hands.

Carbutt added three conversions.
