ELLESMERE Port were back with a bang on Saturday!
Returning to action following a two-week break due to the cold snap, Mark Davies’ men showed no signs of ring rust as they swept past Congleton in a 10-try Cheshire Plate blitz.
The hosts were 12-0 up after 10 minutes thanks to tries from Paul Watkinson and Rob Finlay James Callaghan added a conversion after Elliot Edwards missed the first.
It was one-way traffic and Port increased the score with tries from fullback Ant Jones (2) and back row veteran Andy Dibble, Callaghan kicking one conversion.
Congleton managed one consolation score, but it was Port’s day and they raced into a 46-5 lead thanks to tries from centre Edwards, veteran prop Ian Morris and back row Jerry Phillip.
Unconverted tries by Pete Doyle and Callaghan rounded off en excellent performance by the home side, who would have won by many more had they kicked all their conversions.
Port’s 2nd team lost at Liverpool Collegiate but the 3rds beat Mold 3rds 7-0.
This Saturday, the first team host Crewe & Nantwich, and the 2nds are away at Wirral.
