Leyland Warriors proved too strong for Gladiators for the second week running, sending them out of the NWML Shield at The Cheshire County Sports Club.

Gladiators more than matched the Lancashire club in the first half but dropped off in the second half and the visitors took full advantage to move into the semi finals.

Chester produced some strong defence in the opening period and were impressive with ball in hand.

Declan Foy crossed for his sixth try in five games and Mark Kingsley converted to get them on the board, but Warriors hit back well and took a narrow lead into the break.

Gladiators dipped in the second half and the clinical Warriors put them to the sword, taking a commanding lead.

Chester responded with tries from Luke Harrison and Tom Bradfield but never threatened to get anything from the game.

Chester return to league action on Saturday with a trip to Warrington-based Rylands Sharks A.

Gladiators A team claimed an impressive 44-22 win over Cadishead Rhinos A with tries from Jim Green (2), Jordan Smethurst, Tom Bradfield, Danny Furlong, Paul Foster, Pete Last and Terry Toland.

Meanwhile, the club has launched its junior programme for 2014 for Cubs, U7s, U9s, U11s and U13s.

Sessions will be held every Thursday through the summer and are open to all.

No previous rugby league experience is needed and all training sessions are led by fully-qualified coaches. For more details email info@chestergladiators.com.
