ATHLETICS: VALE Royal AC's talented Under 17s team of Laura Lambert, Rachael Clews and Stevie Stockton led a series of impressive performances nationally in the Saucony English Cross-Country Relay Championships at Mansfield on Saturday.

They finished 12th, beating many big names, and even their second string of Emma Coxon, Lorna Timms and Gemma Lievesley finished ahead of the A teams from the likes of Sale and Birchfield.

The event attracted some 1,200 entries and all Vale Royal teams claimed some notable scalps.

Senior Men's A team Tom Carter, Andy Ellis, Gareth Williams and Graham Miles were 41st; B teamers Tony Archer, Darren Cottier, Mark Thorn-ley and James Edwards were 95th.

Karen Ellison, Val Kinvig and Helen Whitby were 41st in the Senior Ladies.

Juniors: U13s - Kathy Stringer, Sophie Axford and Abi Moffatt 40th (also running were Charlotte Hickson and Elanor Lewis); U13s boys were 24th; U15s - Hannah Weedall, Louise Bosson, Corrine Kinvig 29th; Charlotte Matthews, Elily Deaman, Kate Howard 39th; Andrew Clews, Ryan Smith, Kieran Kinvig 46th; U17s - James Griffiths, Glen George, Steven Mitchell 19th; U20s - Becky Ellis, Nicky Archer, Kate Spilsbury 20th.
