ROWING: A strong row by the Royal Chester Club first eight brought them a well-deserved win at the Nottingham Head of the River Trent Race.

Against a cold, strong headwind, the crew convincingly won the Senior Two division and came fifth overall in a top-class race which was won by the Cambridge University Boat Race crew, followed home by their second crew, Goldie.

The Royal Chester crew of Matt Neame (bow), John Macdonald, Tim Betteridge, Iwan Jones, Harvey Worden, Justin Waller, Paul Turner, Bill Downing (stroke) and cox Nikki Worden will be training hard to challenge as they compete in the North of England Head of the River race on the River Dee on March 18 and also for the Jackson Trophy at the Veterans Head on the River Thames the following weekend.

The second win for Royals was by the dynamic Veteran D eight of Mike Stevens (bow), Geoff Nuttall, Pete English, Tim Birtwistle, Pete Holland-Lloyd, Nigel Pratt, Miles Duncan, John Boothman (stroke) and cox Judy Davies.
