ROYAL Chester Rowing Club has been building up to the North of England Head’s 75th anniversary on the River Dee this Saturday by racing across the UK.

The juniors competed in the Schools Championships at Dorney Lake, Eton College Rowing Centre. The newly-formed J15 Girls Octuple won silver.

Royals’ women took two crews to the Thames to race at the Women’s Head. The first eight improved their position from last years 182 to 51st out of 300 competitors.

Veterans travelled to York and tested themselves against the best in the North, coming away with three gold medals and five divisional wins in age categories.

They then split into two coxed fours, both crews winning their divisions with the D crew setting fastest time of the combined Vets and another gold medal.

A doubles sculls win in Vet C for Paul Johnson and Tim Birtwistle completed the medal haul.
