GROSVENOR Rowing Club had a successful weekend of racing at Shrewsbury Regatta.

Hosted by Pengwern Boat Club on the River Severn, the event is one of the first regattas of the summer, attracting crews from all over the North West and beyond.

Competition was fierce over the 1,000m course.

With all the novice boats at Grosvenor training hard over recent weeks, there were nerves aplenty as they took to the water to win their first ever regatta pots.

The novice women’s four of Roxanne Woodward, Hannah Roberts, Cheryl Tonkinson, Naomi Forrester and Steve Walker (cox) progressed through their heat against University of Chester to win their pots by an impressive 20 seconds against Trafford.

The novice men’s crew of Rob Lawrenson, Warren Shickell, Stuart Daulby, Ed Morris and Gemma Welch (cox) also fought off tough competition, beating Pengwern in the first round and a King’s School boat in the second before defeating another King’s crew in the final.

More Grosvenor wins were to be had, with the Masters E4x- crew winning their two rounds. John McMahon had success in the Masters F/G single sculls.
