QUEEN’S Park High School are celebrating being named the best young team at the Northern Sprints.

The students were awarded the Junior Victor Ludorum at the popular event on Hollingworth Lake near Rochdale.

The Queen’s Park J14 quad of James McDemott, Yousef Khalifa, Joel Langmead and Struan Fishburn, coxed by Rachel Tomkins, began a day to remember by taking their final by one and a half lengths.

Rain lashed down shortly after, but it did not stop Richard Pilling and Peter Young from winning their final by two lengths.

Despite little experience of sweep oars, Tom Young, Scott Wallace, Chris Thomas, Ozzy Ghobadi and cox Lucy Adam won their final by half a length. The same crew then repeated the trick sculling in the coxless fours.

In the J13 quad, Leon Langmead, Craig Roberts, Alex Thomas and George Clouting, coxed by Rachel, came first in their final and Andrew Stuttard, Chris McCartney, Daniel Wallace, Ensley Ingram and cox Justin O’Brian second.

Joy Roberts, Leigh Horan, Emma Clark and Lucy put a seal on Queen’s Park’s success with second spot in the WJ18 final.
