GROSVENOR Rowing Club are celebrating an impressive showing at two regattas.

At a dry and sunny Shrewsbury Regatta, the new crew of James Graves and Paul Blatch claimed the club’s first victory of the weekend in the IM3 coxless pairs.

Further success followed for Jo Jones and Rachel Jones in the women’s masters B double scull and John McMahon in the masters F single scull.

The club’s women’s novice coxed four, comprising Anna Davies, Sarah Dutton, Yvonne Wharton, Tanith Allwood and cox Jo Jones, were knocked out in the first round by a strong Abingdon Rowing Club crew, but picked themselves up to get back on the water the following day to race the shorter 500m course and storm through two rounds to win their first pots in style.

At the Nottingham Regatta, the first multi-lane event of the season, Grosvenor continued their fine form despite strong headwinds.

The first pots arrived when the elite coxed four of Tim Betteridge, Rob Irving, Paul Turner, Inigo Atkin and cox Sarah Armstrong overcame Henley Rowing Club.

Improved conditions then helped the women’s IM3 eight, comprising Abi Sedgwick, Hannah Pole, Lindsay Scott, Carolyn Pollard, Lou Tobias, Helen Rowland, Margaret Ugbo, Goranka Bosanac and cox Bill Webb, see off the challenge of Manchester University.
