HEAVY winds did not stop Grosvenor Rowing Club from racing to a double success at the Runcorn Autumn Head on the River Weaver.

Jeremy Lush, in his VetC 1x single scull, and the all-new WIM3 4+ crew of Caroline Ealey, Laura Champion, Becky Maddison and Goranka Bosanac, coxed by Gemma Welsh, stormed to glory over the 4,500m course.

Grosvenor’s coxed fours crew of Lisa Joyce, Roxi Parkinson, Carolyn Pollard and Louise Crossley achieved a commendable second-placed finish in the novice women’s race before the action was brought to a halt because of the deteriorating conditions.

The Grosvenor crews that were denied the chance of taking to the water are now focusing their efforts on training for the club’s Dee Autumn Head on Saturday, October 31. The eagerly-anticipated event will boast races for all boats to compete over the 4,000m course, from eights to single sculls and in all age categories from juniors to veterans.

A large contingent of students from Queens Park High School’s rowing club made their way to the Runcorn Autumn Head. Despite gale force winds, Chris Thomas and Scott Wallace, in the J18 x2 class, Ozzy Ghobadi and Tom Young, in the IM3 class, and Yousef Khalifa and Joules Langmead, in the J14 x2 class, triumphed.
