QUEEN’S Park High School Rowing Club honoured a former senior coach when they held their annual festive competition – the Pudding Races.

Peter Brown, who had recently resigned from the club, was asked to come back and organise the event as he had done in previous years.

The Pudding Races see mixed teams of junior and senior rowers race in quads on the River Dee. They then retire to the club’s boathouse for races on ergo rowing machines before testing their mental abilities in a quiz.

Unfortunately, the torrential rain which fell over the Christmas period had made the river unsafe for racing this year so the first event of the day had to be cancelled.

Instead the crews went directly to the ergo competition. After a brief break, Simon Cole – one of the club’s coaches – took on the role of quizmaster. All the teams finished level so tins of chocolate sweets were awarded to all, with bottles of wine for each of the coaches.

A presentation was made to Peter Brown for 26 years of service to the club. Flowers were given to his wife Linda.
