PUPILS of Queen's Park High School went up against some of the best rowers in the country at the British Indoor Rowing Championships in Birmingham.

Those taking part used rowing machines, just like ones found in gyms.

Caroline Wither and Leah Morrow, racing in the women's J14 category, rowed for four minutes and came 50th and 33rd respectively in a field of 91 competitors. Chris Thomas, racing in the J15 singles, came sixth in a field of 96 with a personal best distance of 1,490m.

Next up for Queen's Park was the girls' J14 team, which saw Caroline and Leah team up with Joy Roberts and Emma Clark for a distance of 3,000m between them all. The girls came fifth out of 15.

The Chester school saved the best for last as the boys' 4,000m J15 team of Alex Ross, Joe Rowlands, Ozzy Ghobadi and Tom Young received bronze medals for their efforts in a strong, well-matched category.
