FISHING: ROD'N'REEL are still on track to land the North Wales Winter League Championship after winning last Sunday's match on the Golden Nook length of the Shrop-shire Union Canal at Waverton.

Their team card included three section winners with best on the day being Mike Flanagan with roach to weigh 5-13-10. Tony Dean was also up front in his section with 3-7-0 of roach, as was Lee Saville whose weight was 1-15-0.

This latest win now gives Rod'n'Reel a clear three-point lead at the top with two matches still to go in the series.

Castrol SAS enjoyed a spot of good autumn bass fishing last Saturday from the boat Morgan James out of Port Dinorwic.

Anchored over the bar, their top fish of the day was a 5-0-0 bass taken by Mark Shovelton. Mark Wilkinson followed with a 4-8-0 bass, as did Ray Smith who landed a total of 16 bass on the day.

Positions have changed at the top of the Wirral Winter League after last Sunday's match on the Shropshire Union Canal.

Top on the day was Stan Phillips for Dockers Red, who took skim-mers and roach to bread over hemp for 9-8-0. Runner-up was Frank Cooke for Willaston Black, who was drawn on the winning peg from the week before to take all roach to hemp for 8-13-0. Ricki Vogel for Dockers Red was in third place with roach weighing 5-13-8.

Following were Ian Mellor for Birkenhead Centre A on 5-4-2, B Lloyd for Eldonians with 3-9-2 and Alan Miller of Dockers Red on 3-7-5.

On the day, Dockers Red took the lead with 46 points, ahead of Willaston Black on 40, Birken-head Centre A on 39 and Dockers Black on 38.

This now puts Birkenhead Centre A as the league leaders on 173 points and relegating Willaston Red to second place with 168 points, followed by Dick Cleggs on 154, Birkenhead Centre B 147, Willaston Black 142 and Dockers Red on 138.

Dave Jennings of Ellesmere Port netted a total bag of 25-0-0 last week on the Milton Green Fishery, which consisted of roach, skimmers and small carp all taken to caster or worm.

And Bill Jones of Ellesmere Port again struck lucky last week on the Meadow Fishery at Mickle Trafford. He netted a 4-0-0 rainbow trout to a black buzzer.

Two Ellesmere Port trout fishers featured in top fish catches last week when casting their flies on the Dearnford Hall trout fishery at Whitchurch.

Lee Young recorded their best fish of the week with a 9-6-0 rainbow, which he took to a gold-headed stick fly. And John Ellams netted their top brownie of the week, weighing 5-2-0 which fell to a hare's ear.
