ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC's girls have retained a regional title.

The club's Under 15 girls squad scored success at the North West Sportshall League Finals held at Robin Park, Wigan.

Stephanie Owens, Sian Kelman, Daisy Flynn-Piercy, Shona Valentine, Emily Done, Kerry Riley, Rebecca Grimes, Ruth Pritchard and Laura Stott all played a part in securing the club a second successive victory against Deeside AAC, Liverpool Harriers, Sale Harriers, Stockport Harriers and Wirral AC.

Stephanie won the shot, Sian won the vertical jump and four-lap race, while Kerry and Rebecca won the eight-lap parlaaf.

West Cheshire AC also had three teams finish as runners up.

The club's U11 boys, U11 girls and U15 boys all finished in second.

Amir Walwyn and Michael Lyness spearheaded the U15 boys' charge with victories in the standing triple jump.

West Cheshire's U13 girls finished in third spot and the club's U13 boys team finished fourth.

Abbi Kirk won the U13 girls' four-lap and Sam Galley secured success in the two-lap, while Aidan Stoakley (two-lap) and Tom Booth (standing long jump) both finished third in the U13 boys' events. nWest Cheshire AC's distance runners will be attempting to consolidate their good start in the Borders Road Running League Series this weekend.

The club's men's squad, veterans squad, and ladies team are all performing well in their bid to retain titles.

Graham MacNeil, Paul Frodsham, Ken Begley, Gary Roberts, Graham Jenkins, Dave Alexander, Graham Earlam, Dave Tiernan, Paul Price and Andrew Clague will all be hoping to count for the men's squad at Sunday's race.

Heather McLintock, Jules Wilkins and Laura O'Marah will be trying to strengthen West Cheshire's ladies' hopes of success. nThree West Cheshire AC youngsters will be lining up to compete for Cheshire in the English Schools' Cross Country Championships tomorrow.

Rebecca Grimes, Georgina Wright and Charlotte Roach are all preparing to race at Mansfield in one of the final cross country fixtures of the season.

Forthcoming fixtures include the Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race, at Cheshire County Sports Club, Upton, on Wednesday, April 5 (7pm start). Entries will be accepted on the night of the race. nAnyone wanting to attend a training course to become a track judge, field judge or timekeeper is being urged to attend Cheshire County Athletic Association's technical official courses scheduled to be held on Thursday, April 20 at Frodsham Community Centre (7pm start).
