REG Evans won the last match and the series, but could not swing the team title Vale Royal AC's way as well as the Northwich River Weaver Mini League reached a conclusion on Saturday, writes JOHN STUBBS.

Evans was drawn on the first town centre peg and took bream and skimmers on the tip and maggot worth 22-14-0 for a comfortable win which swelled his aggregate to a table topping 77-14-0.

It was enough to give Vale Royal victory on the day with 29-5-0, by 10oz from Edgeley Sports.

Gary Webster 14-8-0 and Frank Holding 12-11-0 were second and third on the day.

But Lymm Gold held on to their lead, with Edgeley Sports, Vale Royal and Protack Barlows finishing in that order.

Ian Shaw won the Winsford Open with a handsome 35-2-0 from peg 194. Keith Smith 22-2-0, Ernie Ayers 17-12-0, Steve Flood 15-8-0 and Bob Kwan 14-6-0 filled the places.

No angler is happy the coarse season is over, but most satisfied man at Barnton and Frodsham AC is Arthur Kenney, who proved the most consistent over 57 matches and was declared club champion.

Peter Moore was runner-up.

Neither man was among the honours in the final two matches, both at Heesom's Pool, however: Wednesday - Barry Owen 9-7-8, Peter Harrdine 8-11-8, Mick Cowley 6-7-10; Sunday - David Blears 9-6-4, Steve Walker 7-4-0, Chris Hargadon 3-7-8, Mike Appleton 3-6-15.

The final Meadow Bank Open winner of the season was Alex Walton 9-8-0, who beat Brian Hawkins 8-13-0, Steve Wilson 8-0-0 and the Winsford Veterans' match at Border Fisheries ended: Eric Gillett 13-4-0, Alex Walton 10-4-0, Harold Jones 8-12-0 with Bill leader, Lionel Sheen, Ernie Ayers and Lol Bradley all section winners.

Sunday's Winsford Flash Open ended: Phil Murphy (Leigh) 29-14-0, Mick Walker (Dave's of Middlewich) 19-2-0, Mike McDermott (Hyde) 14-14-0.
