HAVING last summer relinquished their grip on the Frodsham and District League Division One title they had held for 22 years, Red Lion A are back with a vengeance.

They made it seven wins from as many outings to lead reigning Division One champions Grapes Inn A by 31 chalks.

While Lion A won at Weston Point's Pavilions A, helped by Neville Mathias' 21-4, while Runcorn side Grapes suffered their second campaign defeat - although they did score well at Castle Park A.

Helsby D (Bob Ratcliffe 21-3) had the upper hand in the derby with their B team to stay third. This was despite a 21-4 return from Cindy McLean.

The winners are just ahead of Red Lion B who, bolstered by Den Kinsey's 21-6 card, were too strong for visiting Chetwode A.

Kingswood B (John Salisbury 21-8) overpowered Goshawk A while Egerton A's first win of the season came at home to Tiger's Head A (Alan Mayne 21-6).

With the result of the Pavilions B-Subs A clash not reaching the league on time, Castle Park B have been installed as Division Two leaders - although they were beaten at War Memorial B (Mike Couzens 21-6).

Willow Brook A held onto second despite falling at Manley A, in third.

Goshawk B (Nev Hughes 21-4) saw off their Cons Club A guests while defeat at Helsby A (Fred Hart 21-6) piled on the early-season agony for Pavilions E, who have yet to win.

Crowton continue to head Division Three although they took a thrashing at Halton A, while Norton Arms B (Jeff Hughes 21-5) remain in second place after sending home Subs B.

War Memorial A got the treatment from Egerton B with Ken Roberts, A Hatton and P Isherwood all winning 21-5.

Kingsley A (Bev Brooks 21-5) made it a clean sweep for the division's homesters when beating Norton Arms A.

Division Four leaders Union Tavern enjoyed victory on their own patch against Helsby C.

Chasing Hazel Pear went down at Cons Club B (George Tittle 21-5) while Chetwode B were lifted by George Holah's 21-1 card in home victory against Kingsley B, climbing to third position.

Pavilions D (Matt Freeman 21-1) accounted for Spinner & Bergamot at Weston Point while Willow Brook B (Les Morris 21-5) got the better of Manley.

* Frodsham Red Lion reached the last eight of Cheshire County's Brunner Cup by defeating Heswall British Legion at Vauxhall Motors.
