MARTIAL ARTS: CREWE Ju Jitsu club won a record haul of medals at an annual free-fighting and weapons competition.

The club, based at St Barnabas Church Hall, West Street, was represented by four junior members and two seniors at the event at Winnington Youth Club. Between them they won a club record 16 medals.

Eight-year-old Penny Turner won gold for nunchucks, a silver in the samurai sword event and team fighting, and bronze in the individual contest.

Hazel Ollier, 12, took gold in the intermediate individual fighting category and silver at the advanced category, and came second in the team event.

Michael Patrick, eight, got the third podium place in the intermediate individual fighting competition and added a further gold for team fighting.

Scott Bissett, seven, added gold and a pair of silvers to the haul, excelling in individual fighting at novice and inter-mediate level, and notching a team silver.

Senior fighter Lynn Crosby won individual bronze and mixed-team silver, while Chris Colebourne got individual bronze and team silver.

Sensei Alan Clarke, a fourth-dan black belt, was delighted with second place overall. He said: 'It was a huge improvement on the last few years. Maybe we can win the competition next year.'
