SNOOKER: PLAYERS in the Widnes and District Snooker League are left to play catchup after a points feast fit for a King.

Mark King demolished the previous best Division One break for the season with a stunning 93 clearance.

The feat came in Village A's 9-0 whitewash of RAOB A.

The previous highest of 66 had been set the week before by Ste Rawlinson of Corporation - also, coincidentally, in a clean-sweep victory.

Ste Millington (79-9), Mark Dutton (85-31) and Robbie Fretwell (83-30) backed up King's efforts to demoralise the Buffs.

Overton Memorial Hall still lead, despite a 5-4 defeat by St Bede's, for whom Joe Hyland and Brian Kennedy were the bill-toppers.

St Basil's A put the skids under Ford A 7-2 with Dave Roberts triumphing 80-27, while Farnworth A defeated Corporation A 6-3 with Alan Johnson (74-44) making a telling contribution.

Stadium B's 5-4 victory over Farn-worth B leaves these two sides level at the Division Two summit. Paul Goulden (74-28) and John Pinder (78-29) were the leading lights for Stadium and Farnworth respectively.

Widnes Rec B's 7-2 defeat of Fiddlers A featured an 87-34 frame win from Tony Yasities. This included a 42 break - four short of Danny Naughton's campaign best in this section.

The Rec were also well served by Al McKenna (79-32) while Ferryman John Twist countered with a 74-19.

HRBL lie fourth after Gary Char-nock's 77-36 victory eased them towards a 6-3 win against USC A.

Pavilions B were in no mood for half-measures against Moorfield B and produced a 9-0 whitewash to stay top of Division Three. Lee Gascoigne was the pick for the team from Weston Point in Runcorn as an 81-26 winner.

Farnworth C's 8-1 romp against Stadium A was dominated by Chris Chap-man's 108-30.

Widnes Cons Club head Division Four, despite the blow of a 5-4 defeat by RAOB B, for whom W Raley won 69-33. The leaders had a 64-34 frame from J Gallagher to limit the damage.

Simms Cross B (K Johnson 64-27 and M Hughes 60-31) lie second after winning 8-1 against Mill Brow, for whom W Rawlinson replied with a 63-12.

Widnes Cons Club B's main men against Widnes Cricket Club B were Ian Bush (107-26, including a 32 break) and Simon Howard (97-13 with a 27 break).

Division Five's Stadium C were 7-2 winners over Moorfield C, whom they join on top of the ladder.

Stadium's Dave Boswell had a 71-48 frame win which featured a 34 break while Matt Gill (67-32), Tony Lewis (58-35) and John Caldwell (55-37) were the main supporting acts.
