ATHLETICS: SEVERAL West Cheshire AC members clinched medals representing their county at the North West Regional Sportshall Athletics Championships at Robin Park, Wigan.

The quartet of Michael Lyness, Aidan Stoakley, Matthew Pratt, and Jeremy Stothart steered Cheshire's Under 13 boys squad to success.

Michael Lyness won gold for his 50.3seconds four-lap performance and 7.91m standing triple jump while Aidan Stoakley grabbed a silver medal for his 50.8secs four-lap run.

Five WCAC U13 girls pushed Cheshire into second team position with Abbie Kirk winning gold in the four lap after posting 51.3secs.

Rachel Stoakley, Daisy Flynn-Piercy, and Stephanie Owens pointed Cheshire's U15 girls into second position with Rachel claiming silver for her 23.3secs two-lap performance, Daisy collecting bronze for her standing long jump of 2.12m and Stephanie powering her way to a new best distance of 10.31m in the shot competition for silver.

Andrew Whitton, Andrew Stothart, and Matthew Kenny represented the Cheshire U15 boys team who finished fourth.

A total of 10 WCAC members competed in Sunday's Cheshire Cross Country League second round at Stockport's Woodbank Park.

Kerry Riley finished fourth in the U15 girls race, ahead of teammate Ruth Pritchard in 13th position.

Over 40 veteran Graham MacNeil clinched fifth position in the senior men's race, ahead of Over 40 clubmate Russell Kirk who was 31st, Over 55 veteran Brian Hastings (54th), Over 55 veteran Dave Hough (55th) and Over 60 veteran Mike Lamb (71st).

James Parry finished 10th in the U15 boys' event, and Alice Jennings finished 12th in the U11 girls' event.

Gemma Mayled finished 13th in the U13 girls race at Stockport. nEllesmere Port Running Club members were in action at the five-mile fourth round of the Borders Running League, in Abergele, and the team are now fourth in Division One.

First runner back for Ellesmere Port was Ian Cooper who stormed to ninth position in 27.48 giving him 4th in the Veteran 40 category.

Next home was Steve Crowe (15th in 28.22) to hold on to second position in the senior men's category.

Denis Duret showed a return form by finishing 28th (29.01) which leaves him overall in the senior men's.

Other finishers were Tony Hy-land (29.29); Dave Winder (31.45); Dave Nalder (31.56); Steve Blaylock (32.46); Chris Marshall (33.23); Les Fleetwood (33.28); Keith Musson (33.46). to take 123rd position.
