A STRING of pupils from local primary and high schools won medals at the final round of the West Cheshire AC Schools' Cross Country Series at Cheshire Oaks High School on Saturday.
Ellen Collins, of Our Lady's, won the Year 6 girls race in front of Neston's Alex White, and Willaston's Amy Bettam, who were second and third respectively.
Mike Knight, of Farndon, won the Year 6 boys race, and Alex Jenkins (Our Lady's) finished second, while Joseph O'Riordan (Neston High) won the Year 7 boys event.
Amy Collins, of Ellesmere Port Catholic High, won the Year 8 girls race, ahead of Cheshire Oaks duo Emily Taylor and Katie Pritchard, who finished second and third respectively.
Ellesmere Port athletes did not have it all their own way, however, as Naomi Craig and Jessica Graham scored a one-two for Farndon in the Year 5 girls race, ahead of Woodfall Lane's Geor-gina Grant.
James Realff, of Farndon, won the Year 5 boys race, ahead of Guilden Sutton's Oliver Ashworth and Hoole's Alex Kirk, in second and third places.
* West Cheshire AC's Graham Earlam finished eighth at the Farndon 10k Road Race with a time of 37 minutes 40 seconds.
He was supported by Andy Duffield (25th in 39:22), ahead of Thomas Atherton (148th in 49:40), and Mary Radford (256th in 58:30).
* Fixtures this weekend include the English National Cross Country Championships, at Sunderland, on Saturday; and the Stafford 20-mile Road Race on Sunday (10.30am start).
Forthcoming fixtures include the UK Indoor Combined Events Champion-ships for under 17s and U15s at Manchester on Saturday, March 17, the Borders Road Running League fifth round at Mold on Sunday, March 18; and the North West Sportshall League Finals at Wigan also on March 18.
