AN excellent turnout of 22 runners in race three of the Borders Road Running League saw both the ladies and men's Elles-mere Port Running Club teams cement their places near the top of Division One.
Excellent performances in the ladies' competition by Madelaine and Nicky Bird confirmed their status as leading runners in the region and both now top their respective age categories. Nicky, putting team interests ahead of her own by running with an injury, was still able to finish fourth overall in 33 minutes and six seconds.
She was ably supported by fellow team members Alison Hughes in 35:10, mum Madelaine in 39:21 and Natasha Hadley in 42:11. The ladies' team are now sixth in Division One.
An impressive display from Steve Crowe saw him post 27:32 for second place on the day to retain first place in the senior men's category.
Excellent running from all scoring men helped them to second place on the day. Ian Cooper ran 28:28, Simon Jeffs 29:24, Denis Duret 29:49, Mark Dodd 30:04, Keith Jones 30:30, Steve Laker 31:41, Matt Whitfield 32:07, Danny Legg 32:39 and Brian Griffiths, 33:01.
