SWIMMING: WINSFORD Swimming Club's performance in the North West Speedo League at Horwich on Saturday has left them just one good result away from winning promotion to Division One.

Star performers were the 13-year-old boys' relay team of Oliver Gaskell, Ashley Walton, Alex Hay and George White, who had a clear run of wins in both the medley and freestyle relays, as well as superb individual wins by Walton and Gaskell to gain maximum points in their age group.

The 15-year-old boys and Open men's team followed suit with wins in their respective relays. Winning individual performances came from Oliver Paver, Simon Oakley and James Atherton, while Andrew Irvine (fly and freestyle) set new club records in his events.

Not to be outdone by the boys, the girls' 15-year-old relay squad of Kerry Harrison, Steph Buckley, Lucie Tetley and Lisa Millington crushed strong opposition from around the North West in the freestyle and medley events to gain maximum points.

Lucie Tetley and Buckley were joined by Abi Tetley and Robyn Allcock to form the Ladies' Open team and claim victory in both of their relays, while Abi Tetley set a new club record in the individual medley.

Their maximum points score pushed Winsford's total to 235 and helped secure second place, missing the top slot by just three points, and Winsford enter the 'A' final, which will take place on December 13, needing just a top-three placing to get that promotion place.
