HOCKEY: DEESIDE Ramblers got their season off to a flying start with a 3-0 home win over Leeds University in North League Division One.

Hedley Pollard gave them the lead just before the interval. In the second half Deeside took control of the game, Pollard again on target. Will Mumme-Young converted a short corner 10 minutes before time to finish matters.

Deeside's seconds were held to a 1-1 draw with Prescot despite taking an early lead courtesy of a Phil Brown. Prescot equalised three minutes from time.

A hat-trick from Ben Lamont saw Ramblers' third team come back from 3-0 down to 3-3 against Blackburn, but they conceded a late goal to lose 4-3.

The Tarporley club's fourth team were 4-1 winners over Triton, Simon Anderson and Thomas Fearnall putting them 2-0 up at the break. Phil Johnson added a brace after the break.

In their local derby with Chester, Ramblers' fifth team conceded two late goals in a 2-2 draw. Peter Cope and Jeff Latham put them ahead in the first half before Richard Evans and Steve Hyden replied for Chester.

Chester opened their North League Division One campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Doncaster.

Doncaster went 1-0 in the first half before adding two more after the break.

Chester's fourth team defeated South Cheshire 2-0.
