BASEBALL: PLAYERS in Halton Baseball Club's Polecats junior section will be keeping their hands in during the winter with indoor training.
The off-season sessions are all at Brookvale Recreation Centre in Runcorn for members and prospective newcomers.
Head coach John Mills said: 'Each junior session will be coached by Level Two coaches, assisted by young volunteers holding Level One certificates.
'This is a great time to gear up those baseball skills, stay fit and learn more about the game.
'They are also great opportunities for player recruitment.'
The Rookie Club - for children in school Years 3 to 5 inclusive (seven to nine-year-olds) will meet on Saturdays, from noon-1pm, starting October 22.
Coaches are Colin Walton, Alex Heesom and Billy Sneddon.
The Bronco Group caters for those in school Years 6, 7 and 8 (ten to 12 year olds).
This is already meeting on Saturdays from 11am-noon with the coaching team being Bob Knowles, Bryan Hulme, Harry Mills and Jonathan Pauls.
Coaches Nick Bustin and Colin Walton take charge of the Pony Group on Fridays from 6.30pm-7.30pm with the first session on October 21.
This is for youngsters in School Years 9 to 11 inclusive (13 to 15 year olds).
Other coaches John Mills, Chris Hartley and Glynn Lightfoot will have an occasional involvement in sessions.
But Mills added: 'At the moment, we don't have an official female helper for each group and so girls will only be able to take part if a parent is present.
'Hopefully, we can recruit female helpers for each team soon.'
There is a weekly subscription of £1.50 per child to help fund the block booking - payable to the lead coach on the day.
Participants will also pay a 70 pence centre-admission charge at reception.
Polecats will have a head start on their senior colleagues from Halton Jaguars who don't start their indoor training - on Wednesdays - until November.
Jags training times will be posted weekly on the club website. Fees are £1.50 for Under 18s and £2.60 for 18s and over.
