Hundreds of runners descended on Bolesworth Castle for the Cheshire AA Cross Country Championships.

Athletes from West Cheshire AC, Tattenhall Runners, Halton & Frodsham Harriers, Helsby RC and Chester Triathlon Club lined up against rivals from other parts of the county at Saturday's event.

West Cheshire AC celebrated a hat-trick of individual victories and team medals in four age groups.

Isaac Tait started the day on a winning note with success in the under 11 boys race with a time of seven minutes 28 seconds, and he was backed up by Dylan Bugg (fourth in 7:37) and Ethan Butler (10th in 8:00) to secure team gold medals.

Evan Roberts was crowned under 15 boys winner with a time of 17:01, ahead of teammates Ethan Greenland (13th in 19:20) and Jac Goodall (14th in 19:22) to secure bronze team medals.

Dave Hough won the over 65 men’s title after posting 55:05 in the senior and veteran men’s race where he was joined by over 45 men’s bronze medallist Dave Alexander (15th overall in 40:20).

Katie Clarke secured a silver medal in the U17 women’s race after clocking 20:16 for second spot, ahead of Laura Smith (15th in 24:18). Lucia Pyne (fifth in 8:22), Holly Weedall (seventh in 8:28), Imogen Pughe (14th in 8:51) and Abigail Cartwright (20th in 9:13) combined to earn West Cheshire AC team silver medals in the U11 girls race.

Sonny Dean (fourth in 10:10), Jack Chapman (sixth in 10:27) and Sion Roberts (11th in 10:54) earned team silver medals in the U13 boys race, while Cameron Weaver finished fifth in the U17 men’s race with 25:17, and Issy Clarke was fifth with 15:54 in the U15 girls.

Eve Duret (seventh in 11:39), Hollie Jones (20th in 12:57), Molly Jones (27th in 13:26), and Mollie Smith (30th in 14:25) completed the U13 girls race, while Ellen McMahon was ninth with 37:42 in the U20 women’s race. Ellie Robinson (27th in 37:40) and Lisa Davies 32nd in 38:37) were fourth and sixth in the over 40s.

Tattenhall Runners' ladies' team finished third overall and third in the veteran ladies' section thanks to the efforts of Georgina Ross (14th in 34:27), Alli Grundy (16th in 35:04), Alice Robinson (19th in 35:33) and Adele Curran (49th in 41:52) over the 7k distance.

Tattenhall's men's team tackled the 9km course with gusto. Rob Arden led the club home, finishing 32nd (43:09) followed by Andy Sudlow (36th in 43:50), Simon Ellis (48th in 44:38), Simon Duckett (64th in 46:28), Nick Holmes (78th in 47:47) and Martin Durrant (111th in 53:30).

For Chester Tri, Michael Waring (60th in 46:09) was the first finisher while the leading male and female finishers for Helsby RC were Colin Thompson (24th in 41:35) and Jenny Illidge (17th in 35:16).

For Halton and Frodsham Harriers, Chris Larkin was third in the U15 boys event and Richard McGeachie fourth in the U20 men's race.
