A TRIO of crews enhanced Runcorn's reputation by rowing to top-five finishes in the National Rowing Championships of Great Britain.

The event took place over three days at Strathclyde Park in Scotland.

Runcorn entered seven crews in all with three of them progressing to the finals.

Phil Bateson and Kris Hinde, both 19, achieved the Clifton club's highest finish of fourth in the Junior Open Double.

Their Women's Junior 16 Coxless Quad - comprising Emily Bennett, Becky Hoose, Kirsty Newton and Alex Parkinson - came in fifth.

Jenny Shaw and Chloe Sheward claimed another fifth spot for Runcorn in the Women's Junior 15 Double - completing the 2,000m course with a time of eight mins 21 secs in a record-breaking race.
