Winnington Park 5, Wigan 1
WINNINGTON set up a North League promotion showdown at Wigton this weekend with an emphatic victory on Saturday.
Although they were ahead at half-time they were not in thorough command until coach Chris Davies gave out fresh instructions.
She said: 'Wigan had a good game plan and were containing Karen Morgan. We needed to get the ball out wide and pass around them.'
Park responded by winning at a canter, though they conceded a late goal to a penalty corner.
Morgan crossed for Eileen Miller to open the scoring and their lead doubled when Davies' shot from a penalty corner was deflected for Helen Cartin to strike home.
Leona Trimble, from close range, added the third two minutes into the second half. Morgan helped Miller to her second before going on a solo run to complete the scoring.
Winnington 2nds were held 3-3 at Bebington but still celebrated promotion to the Cheshire League Division Three.
The home goalkeeper saved shot after shot, except those blasted past her by Amanda Sharrock (2) and Ellie Capstick.
Winnington Park 1, Northern 2
WINNINGTON men suffered only their second home defeat of the season on Saturday.
They enjoyed a lot of possession and created a number of chances and most of their best efforts came from penalty corners.
Much of Park's attacking play came from the right-hand side, with Jeff Dodd putting in a solid performance to support the man of the match, Steve Campagnaro, on the right wing. He was felled for the Winnington goal, Dennis Topping scoring expertly from the spot.
Strong claims for another penalty in the last seconds were ignored.
Park 2nds lost at Macclesfield 4-3 (Sam Jones 2, Simon Pinson); Paul Eggleston netted in the 4ths 1-1 draw at Bowdon 8th.
Saturday: 1st away v Wrexham; 2nds away v City of Manchester; 3rds home v Macc 4ths.
