SCOTT Robertson looked set to give Team GB's table tennis squad a shot in the arm when he seized the opening game on a dismal Paralympics opening day for the host nation with the bat.

The 36-year-old took the first game at London's ExCeL Arena against Chinese player Ningning Cao 11-7 sparking hopes he might stage an upset.

But the 24-year-old switched up a gear to take the next three games and win the match 3-1.

Robertson is back in action today when he faces the Czech Republic's veteran Rene Taus at 9.40am.

Ellesmere Port's Richard Hennahane earned a ranking of 16th in the initial stages of the men's individual compound by scoring 640 points. today he takes on the Czech Republic's Jiri Klich in the elimination round.

Chester's Ric Waddon finished ninth in the C123 1km time trial at the Velodrome.
