BASKETBALL: ELLESMERE Port Panthers' sensational 21-match un-beaten run saw them storm to the Winter League title in Manchester.

The junior side, comprising primary school youngsters aged between 7-11, finished top of their round-robin group before clinching victory in the play-off games.

Panthers won 19 matches in succession over the course of the season against sides from across Manchester, which secured them a semi-final appearance against fourth-placed Ladybarn Primary School.

They proved to be no match for the Panthers who romped to a 55-16 victory to set up a final showdown with St John's Ninjas.

Once again Panthers produced a fine display and clinched the title with a 49-36 triumph in front of over 30 parents and supporters who made the trip over from the Port.

Head coach Carl Jones said: 'We've got a very good side and it's been some achievement to go the whole season undefeated.

'The players are all made up. They're very keen on the sport and it's proving to be very popular in Ellesmere Port. On Fridays we can have up to 30 youngsters turning up to train.'

The team paraded their trophy before Chester Jets' clash with Sheffield Sharks at the Northgate Arena where they also got to meet coach Billy Singleton and his players.
