MARTIAL ARTS: A PAIR of Crewe judo players will be bidding for glory in this weekend's National Championships at Crystal Palace.

Clinton Royle, 16, and Katie Daniels, 12, both members of Crewe Allstars Judo Club, are the only players from Cheshire taking part.

The duo will represent the North West at the London event and have every reason to be battling it out for a place on the podium as all medallists will also earn selection for the British squad.

Allstars coach Clinton Royle senior said: 'Both Clinton and Katie train with myself and also Phil Sullivan at the Wigan club, so I can't claim all the credit. But they are both major assets to our club and I'm really excited about this weekend.

'It's a massive honour for the club to have two players taking part in these championships. It was one of our aims at the start of this year to have two people competing in the National Championships, so I'm pleased as punch.'

The Allstars club meet at the Methodist Church Hall in Minshull New Road, Crewe, and have recently carried out £5,000 refurbishments.

Beginners and novices classes are held on Fridays and Sundays between 6pm and 7.30pm, and sessions for advanced and senior play-ers between 7pm and 8.30pm on the same days.
