THE two vice-captains at Portal Premier GC are celebrating hitting aces - within a day of each other!

Ben McDyre, the Tarporley club's men's vice-captain, and lady vice-captain Rosemary Lilley were the toast of the clubhouse after their respective hole-in-ones.

The aces came in the Captains v Presidents match and Past Lady Captains' competitions respectively.

Rosemary, who lives in Tarporley, was overjoyed with her ace on the 140-yard 15th hole, achieved with a nine iron.

She said: 'One of our past lady captains, Jo Garbutt, died earlier this year, but she used to joke with me that I should just hit it with a nine iron and it'll roll in.

'Well, I did just that and I'm delighted with it. Jo must have been looking after me.' Rosemary's hole-in-one came a day after Ben's success, which he achieved on his way to securing victory in the Captains v Presidents team event alongside Liz Peters and Alec Brown.

Ben, a 13-handicapper from Whitegate, pulled off his five-iron ace on the 176-yard 17th hole.

He said: 'I was absolutely thrilled when I saw it go in. I guess 13 must be lucky for some!'
