TWO West Cheshire AC members represented Cheshire at the English Schools Combined Events Championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Michael Lyness finished 13th in the intermediate boys octathlon, and Alice Jennings claimed 28th spot in the junior girls pentathlon.

Michael scored 4,592 points which featured a 5.78m long jump, 38.63m in the discus, 41.59m in javelin, 57.65 seconds in the 400m, 15.81 seconds in the 100m hurdles, 1.87m in the high jump, 11.49m in the shot and a 1,500m time of 4:55.94.

Alice’s performance included 12.90 seconds in the 75m hurdles, 7.60m in the shot, 1.45m in the high jump, 3.93m in the long jump and 2:37.60 in the 800m for 2,411 points.

West Cheshire’s juniors start the defence of three titles this weekend.

The club will attempt to get off to a flying start at the opening round of the North West Sportshall Athletics League which takes place at Robin Park, Wigan, on Sunday (noon start).

Club members who have booked their seat on the coach to Wigan should assemble at Cheshire Oaks High School, Ellesmere Port, on Sunday at 9.45am for a 10am departure.

West Cheshire will stage their monthly committee meeting at Stanney Oaks Track, Ellesmere Port, on Thursday, October 9 (8pm start). The club’s AGM is at the Epic Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port on Friday, November 28 (7.30pm start).
