TWO teenagers are celebrating after achieving every tennis play-er's dream - playing at Wimbledon.

Neston Tennis Club duo Sharni Stocker-Jones and Sam Davies played a series of matches on the All England Club's famous grass courts after qualifying for the Road to Wimbledon National 14 and Under Challenge.

The youngsters received the invitation to compete in the last 64 after finishing as runners-up in their respective Cheshire county finals in July.

Sharni, of Ellesmere Port, appeared at the tournament despite having only just returned from a six-month injury lay-off with a dislocated knee.

The 13-year-old - a pupil at Mostyn House School in Parkgate - finished second in a pool of four to qualify for the last 32.

Sharni's dad Mal Jones said: 'Sharni was so proud to qualify for the last 32. It was unbelievable really after all the injury problems she has had and she loved every minute of it.

'She came up against the tournament's top seed in the main draw and it was always going to be tough.

'But she held her head high and despite picking up an arm injury she saw the match through to the end.'

Sam, who is a pupil at Neston High, enjoyed his Wimbledon experience despite losing all three of his matches.

'It was great playing on the Wimbledon grass and although I didn't win any of my matches it was still a brilliant experience,' said the 13-year-old from Neston.

'I came up against some very tough opponents in my group but it is good to test myself against the best players in my age group in Britain and hopefully I can continue to improve.'

Both youngsters are now aiming to return to Wimbledon for next year's competition for what will be their final year in the U14 age group.
