WHITBY'S number one team lived up to their name at the Ellesmere Port and Wirral Triples Competition held at Ellesmere Port RBL.

The winning trio of Den Lloyd, Dot Lloyd and I Jarvis saw off stiff competition in the final from OC No 3's trio of F & V Keenan and K Jones, claiming their crown with a convincing 13-3 victory.

Whitby's heroes had previously disposed of Ellesmere Port RBL at the quarter-final stage and Vauxhall's No 2 team in the semis.

Last year's winners, Lairds No 1 (D Hyde/V Schaus/CRuse), fell at the semi-final stage to the eventual runners-up after a game that went to an extra end.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who assisted in staging both the preliminary rounds and the finals, and also all the non-players who came along to watch and offer their support.

Funds raised during the competition by those attending competition matches totalled £69 after raffles were held at the four venues.

* The next competition is the Hospice Mixed Individuals Competition to be played the week starting Sunday, March 4.

All entries must be in by the next management committee meeting on Monday, February 26 at the Labour Club.
