MOTOR SPORT: CHESTER'S Mark Robinson was the main man at Oulton Park at the weekend as he once again dominated the XR Challenge in his Fiesta.

He qualified on pole by more than two seconds, and beat the Ford Escort XR3i of Mike Wright by over six seconds in the race. Wright was the only man to get within two seconds of Robinson's best lap. Robinson led by over seven seconds after three laps and then just maintained a gap until the end.

Another Chester driver, Seamus Wild, qualified 25th in the race for Post-1989 Ford 1600 cars, but dropped down the order and eventually launched himself over the back of Matt Darcy in an incident at the first chicane. Both drivers were unhurt in the incident but it brought the red flags out and ended the race after just six laps.

In the Pre-1990 Formula Ford race, Chester's Andrew Meyrick got pole by 0.840 seconds and pulled away on every single lap of the race to beat David Ashton to second by 16.720 seconds.

The European Endurance Racing Club's Britcar series heads to Oulton Park tomorrow to take on the challenge of the picturesque international circuit.

The Cheshire track is a favourite among many drivers, and with Britcar providing three of the longest races on the circuit's calendar with machines ranging from Porsches to Renault Clios, there is sure to be plenty of interest.

The first event will be the Britsports/Gold Arts race, a 90-minute challenge for purpose-built sports cars powered by engines of a variety of different sizes.

The longest race of the day, the Britcar race itself, is made of cars including Corvettes, Marcoses, Lotuses, plus a few Ferraris.

The day's action will finish with the Production S1 category, a two-hour event for cars more similar to road-going models.

Qualifying begins at 8.45am, with the first race at 10.45am. Tickets cost £12 for adults with children aged 12 free. Parking and paddock access is also free.
