NORTON A have a commanding lead at the top of Division One of the Crewe and District Table Tennis League following their 9-1 victory over Wordcraft.

A hat-trick of wins from Jim Mason and Pete Smith, along with a brace from Granville Chatterley, saw off Wordcraft who only had Pete Degg's win over Chatterley to show from the match.

Post Office A are the closest challengers after a 7-3 win over stablemates Post Office C thanks to a John Ibbs maximum and two wins from John Stoneley. A brace of wins from Lee Groves for the C side was their main contribution.

The basement battle between Post Office B and Post Office D ended in a 9-1 win for the B side, with trebles from Alan Shaw and Rex Brockway and two wins from John Broomhead. Tony Kemp got the point for the D team.

In Division Two, Post Office E remain in second spot but closed the gap on the leaders down to a single point with a 6-4 win over Norton B.

Steve Crowon and Rupert Turner both picked up a brace of wins for Post Office. Norton's Steve Foster won his matches but still ended on the losing side.
