AFTER a pep talk on the coach from chairman Mike Worthington and a strategy laid down by Brad Sandeman and Brian Pritchard, Witton turned in a superb performance on Humberside to achieve their first win of the season on Monday.

Most significant changes were to switch the diminutive Andy Thomas to left-back and Gary Furnival to the centre, and the reintroduction of Steve Mallinson and Adam Foy, who epitomised the team spirit by turning in a fine performance despite a painful foot injury.

Simon Burton twice went close in the opening 15 minutes and a half-hour had passed before Jamie Richards had Ferriby's first effort.

In the 43rd minute, Albion went ahead when Mike Moseley headed a Sandeman cross to the side where Burton's initial shot was blocked by Paul Sharpe. But he gleefully walloped in the rebound.

Albion's first lead of the season did not last until half-time. In injury-time, Steve Fisher pumped a partial clearance back at goal and a linesman spotted the ball had crossed the line before Simon Hughes cleared.

Sub David Eaton held the ball up well for Mike Moseley to race on to and stab home in the 51st minute.

Moseley went close to a second from Mallinson's free-kick in 67 minutes and, though they were well on top, Albion were still grateful in 82 minutes when Rhys Pindar's shot deflected to safety off Thomas' legs.

Eaton made sure of the points in 89 minutes, beating the offside trap and finishing coolly from Craig Sargeson's through ball.
