HOCKEY: NESTON SOUTH WIRRAL'S first team were held to an entertaining 3-3 draw against Winnington Park at Neston Recreation Centre.
Winnington took an early lead in the second minute from a short corner goal when their attacker was left unmarked at the far post.
Neston replied within 10 minutes through Danny Griffiths, following a goalmouth scramble, and soon after were in front after Chris Sullivan swept in Barry Roberts' short corner shot.
The home side almost increased their lead further but Greg Brooker's shot was saved.
However, on the stroke of half time Winnington equalised from a well placed flicked short corner shot.
Neston regained the lead almost immediately after the break with Barry Roberts scoring from a short corner.
Neston missed further chances with Dominic Khedun and Jason Long both going close, and they were made to rue their missed chances as, with five minutes left, the visitors snatched an unlikely equaliser after the ball had rebounded off the post in a goal-mouth scramble.
The second team lost their second successive match 6-1 to Runcorn with Steve Mahoney flicking home a late consolation goal. The third team also suffered a setback as they were beaten 3-1 by runaway leaders Chester College with Jonathan Brown scoring.
Meanwhile the fourths returned to winning ways with an emphatic 5-1 win over Northop Hall (4) with Nick Hickley (3), Rob Griffin and Sam Schwab all on target.
