THREE of Tattenhall Runners’ finest female athletes ran with Olympians in the national cross country relays in Mansfield.

The trio completed the 3km mud-filled circuits to finish 49th in a high class field of 79 teams.

Liz Crawshaw was the fastest of the three in 12 minutes and two seconds, finishing leg one in 62nd place.

Alison Smith made up eight places running 12:47 despite having a cold, and Amanda Davies brought the girls home making up five more places as she clocked 12:49.

A Tattenhall septet battled snow, mud and wet ground in the Clywdian Hills Fell Race.

Simon Ellis and Peter Taylor were fourth and fifth respectively in 84 minutes on the nine-mile course with 3,000ft ascent. They were locked all the way with Ellis edging Taylor by 30 seconds.

Steve Hammond led home three Tattenhallers in close contention in 94 minutes. Mark Smith was 40 seconds behind him and Sarah Hammond a further two minutes behind.

Justin Realff made a rare foray on the fells to come home in one hour and 43 minutes, and Sue Ellis ran a personal best.
