JENNY Tinmouth returns to the scene of her greatest triumph this week determined to hold on to her title as the fastest woman in the history of the Isle of Man TT.

The Ellesmere Port race ace wrote her name into the Guinness World Records when making a stunning debut at the Manx event 12 months ago.

The 32-year-old clocked an average speed of 116.835mph around the famous Mountain Course to smash the previous female record set by Maria Costello.

Costello is back to reclaim her crown but Tinmouth is ready to face the challenge head on.

“I’m really looking forward to it and I can’t wait to get back out there now,” said Tinmouth, who is from Whitby. “I’ve got my first practice race on Saturday and I’m hoping to have another good year.

“To do what I did last year was amazing as it was my first time racing in the TT. I know Maria is coming back this year so it will be tough, but I’m just going to go out there and enjoy myself.”

Tinmouth’s performance at last year’s TT was recognised by the TT Supporters Club, who rewarded her with the Susan Jenness Trophy, presented every year in memory of the marshal who lost her life at an off-road event.

This year Tinmouth will compete in the Superbike, Superstock and Senior TT, along with both Supersport TT races, in which she will be sponsored by Man Glass & Glazing Ltd.

Tinmouth is in fine form. The mechanic is just five points off top spot in the British Supersport Championship Cup – one of the support races for the British Superbike Championship – after she finished sixth at Cadwell Park last weekend.

Buzzing after her podium place at Oulton Park earlier in the month, Tinmouth produced a steady performance at the Lincolnshire circuit to keep her title dreams very much on track.

Tinmouth, who makes her way to the Isle of Man today, said: “It went really well. I got past a couple of riders and then held my position.

“It’s really tight at the moment. I’m only five points off the top and a point off a couple of riders below me, so it’s really exciting.”

Race week at the TT begins a week on Saturday (June 5).
