AN Ellesmere Port youngster is aiming for more success on his quad bike, writes SAM CHRISTIE.

Adam James, 12, lies in joint second place of the Auto Cycle Union (ACU) British Quad Championship going into Saturday’s second stage at Duns, Scotland.

Adam’s grandad and mechanic, Nigel, is in buoyant mood for the race: “He’s on a roll and hopefully he’ll go there and win.”

It is the first time the ACU have staged a championship for junior racers and it is being held as a trial.

“The adult competition has been around for a while and is 10 rounds,” said Nigel. “The junior classes are being tried as a taster with just the three stages to see how it goes and hopefully it will be around next season and with more venues.

Ellesmere Port Catholic High pupil Adam is also attempting to successfully defend his 100cc IOPD British Championship, as well as making the step up to the 250cc category.

He lies in third place in the 100cc and fifth in the 250cc after four rounds of three races.

Nigel added: “As it’s his first season in the 250cc we never went in with great expectations but we’re hopeful of a top five finish.”

Adam, of Stanney Oaks, has been quad-biking competitively for three years and dad Jason races in the adult IOPD category.
