HOWIE Mainwaring announced his return to racing in blistering style at a wet Oulton Park.
The Frodsham Flyer, riding for new team Jx Fuelcards in the Metzeler 1000 Superstock National Championship, missed the opening meeting at Brands Hatch but strode in to claim sixth spot in his home race on Monday on his team Kawasaki.
Not too far behind was Ian Mackman, who demonstrated another huge improvement as he prepares for an assault on the Isle of Man TT.
Mackman, service manager at Bill Smith Motors in Chester, finished 12th, a massive improvement on his previous best ever finish in this series, 19th achieved in the last race.
