SEB Morris rounded off a week to remember by making a welcome and richly deserved return to the podium.

Fresh from being named a British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star, the Abbey Gate College student powered to third place in the third of his three Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship races at Donington Park.

Morris, who is fourth in the standings going into the final rounds at Silverstone, said: “It’s a shame we couldn’t win but it was a fantastic race and I’m really happy to be back on the podium after a very disappointing couple of months.”

Morris suffered a bitterly disappointing retirement in his first race at the Leicestershire track before finishing fifth in his second.

The 16-year-old Fortec Motorsports driver, whose previous podium place was at Rockingham back in May, saved his best until last as he posted the fastest lap on his way to a top-three finish.

Morris, from Marford, said he ‘was honoured with the major accolade bestowed upon him by the BRDC.’

The Motor Sports Association (MSA) Academy member added: “I’m really proud to represent the club and I’m focused on repaying such fantastic support, which is huge for my career.”

Morris’ manager Andy Meyrick, meanwhile, made a positive Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut as he finished third and fourth in the rounds at Snetterton.

The Delamare ace, 26, said: “It was good fun being in the series and I reckon I made a good start.”

Race fans are invited to take part in the north west’s biggest retro-themed party as the Oulton Park Gold Cup returns this bank holiday weekend.

Tickets for the annual event, which takes place at the Tarporley track on Sunday and Monday, are available in advance from £17. Children under 12 get in for free.
