IT was a tough weekend for Delamere sportscar ace Andy Meyrick on home soil in the Blancpain Endurance Series.

Lack of top speed hampered the 27-year-old Gulf Racing McLaren driver on the high-speed Silverstone circuit, qualifying 18th in the Pro-Am class for professional and amateur drivers sharing the same car.

Team-mate Mike Wainwright kept the McLaren out of trouble in the first part of the three-hour race, while Meyrick used his skill to climb up the order during his stint. The duo finished 15th in their class, in an event won by the Aston Martin trio of Darren Turner, Frédéric Makowiecki and Stefan Mucke.

Meyrick said: “Because the McLarens were so quick at the first round of the championship at Monza, we were stung on balance of performance at Silverstone and therefore struggled against some of the other GT3s. It was, however, great to be driving at Silverstone and a pleasure to do so alongside Mike, who put in another solid race.”
