ANDY Meyrick motored to a hat-trick of victories at Silverstone over the weekend.

The 25-year-old racing driver from Delamere defeated a number of famous rivals from past and present at the Silverstone Classic event.

The meeting featured 22 races and more than 700 historic cars, including several F1 models, such as the 1976 March 761 that was driven by Meyrick.

The car was originally driven by former F1 driver Vittorio Brambilla, and Meyrick took it to first place on Saturday – 24 seconds ahead of a field of 38 F1 cars from the 1970s and 80s.

The former King’s School pupil also won Sunday’s second Grand Prix Masters race before teaming up with father his Peter in the Group C Endurance races, driving a family-owned 1989 SE89C Spice Group C2 car.

The Meyrick pairing qualified in 15th place overall but Meyrick Jnr came through the field to take third place in just two laps. He held the position to the end to take a C2 class victory – sealing his third title of the weekend.

He said: “It was good fun and great to be driving a racing car again, especially with such good competitors and in front of a big crowd. Winning was the icing on the cake.”
