ANDY Meyrick has given his chances for the forthcoming season a major boost after penning a ‘dream’ deal to drive for motorsport powerhouse Aston Martin in 2011.

After taking the driver’s seat for them for the final round of the Le Mans series at Silverstone last year, the 25-year-old impressed the Aston Martin chiefs enough to be offered a place in the team for their assault on this year’s championship.

Delamere racer Meyrick, who has seen his stock rise dramatically following his success in last year’s American Le Mans series, will be driving the new open-cockpit AMR-One during this year’s Inter-Continental Cup and the world famous 24 hours of Le Mans in June.

“It is nice to have everything out in the open now and I’m absolutely delighted to be driving for Aston Martin,” said Meyrick, a former Chester King’s School pupil.

“I drove for them last year at Silverstone during the Le Mans series and they liked me enough to ask me to drive for them this season.

“It’s a dream come true for me. They are the biggest factory team in the sport and for a young driver such as myself, it is a tremendous honour.”

Meyrick, who will share the 009 cockpit with Mexico’s Adrian Fernandez and Switzerland’s Harold Primat, believes his team will be suitably positioned for a shot at glory during the forthcoming campaign.

“We have a great team for next season as both Adrian and Harold have a tremendous pedigree,” said Meyrick.

“Adrian is a former IndyCar winner and Formula One test driver while Harold has raced with Aston Martin for the last five years.

“Our main competitors will be the likes of Audi, Peugeot and Akura but our car is brand new and we are aiming to win all that is on offer.”

Meyrick, who is running this year’s London Marathon for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, hopes his increased training regime will leave him in top shape when he lines up on the grid.

“The marathon training is really helping me with my fitness levels,” he said.

“On top of all the miles I have been running, we have been in the gym doing a lot of preparation which has been really intense.

“The aim is that when the season starts, we will all be at our peak and ready to go for glory.”
