VAUXHALL Motors travel to Stafford Rangers on Saturday for their eagerly-awaited FA Umbro Trophy second-round tie.

Their Dr Martens Premier Division club hosts have a fine pedigree in non-league opposition and should prove tough opponents.

Stafford were one of the top non-league sides in the country during the 70s and twice lifted the trophy in three Wembley appearances during that decade.

Any replay will be back at Rivacre Park next Tuesday and would take precedence over the Motormen's next scheduled home league fixture against Burscough that night.

Vauxhall booked their place after a comfortable 3-0 victory in Northamptonshire against Corby Town earlier this month.

The Motormen will be hoping that left-back Kevin Thompson will have recovered from a recent injury and be available for selection for the tie.

Victory would put them into the third round the stage where Nationwide Conference clubs enter the competition - for the very first time.

Meanwhile, Rivacre Park tonight hosts the first of four reserve league games for Tranmere Rovers.

West Bromwich Albion are the visitors for the Avon Insurance Premier League fixture (kick-off 7.30pm).

Vauxhall Press officer Alan Bartlam said: 'It is an arrangement that benefits both clubs.

'Tranmere are eager to protect their Prenton Park pitch during the height of the winter, while the exercise will also allow Vauxhall to show off their fine facilities to a wider audience.'
