Vauxhall Motors are looking forward as they prepare for the new season.

Motors, who will this evening unveil a new sponsor before their game against AFC Liverpool at Rivacre Park, have spent the summer bolstering their attack after being saved from relegation from Blue Square North.

With Craig Robinson leaving for Ashton, Mark Maddox taking a position at Accrington Stanley’s Centre of Excellence and Tom Field signing for Leigh Genesis, Macauley had some rebuilding to do.

Having signed FC United midfielder James Holden and forwards Rio Nelson and Pat McFadden, Macauley’s next priority is another midfielder.

All three new boys featured as Motors fielded a side mostly containing trialists against Bangor City at Farrar Road.

Motors were beaten 3-1 by a Bangor side preparing for a Uefa Cup qualifier tomorrow night.

The Motormen went 1-0 down on 18 minutes when a slip by Anthony Price let in Karl Noon who rounded the keeper and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net.

On 35 minutes, poor defending by Vauxhall let in Les Davies who looped the ball over advancing Motors keeper Aiden Dickinson to make it 2-0 to Bangor.

A minute after the break it was 3-0. Karl Noon again made the most of an exposed Motors defence and neatly tucked the ball away from six yards out.

The visitors’ first significant opportunity came on 65 minutes when Nelson had a good shot from a tight angle which was tipped over by the Bangor keeper.

McFadden was rewarded for a hard-working display on 85 minutes when his 25 yard screamer gave the keeper no chance and made the final score 3-1.

At the same time at Rivacre Park another Motors squad was tackling Formby. With Thomas Rooney leading the line Motors cruised to a 4-0 victory, although a knee injury to Tom Hannigan took the shine off the win.

"We are looking good at the moment," said Macauley. "We have had to rush to get the squad together but we have brought in some good players.

"At the back I am very happy, we needed more attacking players but they have to learn now to defend as a team if we are to do well and avoid the situation we put ourselves in last term."

Tonight’s match against AFC Liverpool kicks off at 7.30pm. Motors travel to face Prestatyn Town on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm. On Tuesday they play their final pre-season game, against Colwyn Bay at Rivacre Park, kick-off 7.30pm.
