WADE Deacon High were a hit and near miss in the Cheshire Schools Table Tennis Championships.

These were held at Halton TTC in Halton Stadium, where the Birchfield Road school's U16s team took the county title while the U13s were beaten finalists.

The older age-group side defeated Henbury High School of Macclesfield 15-14 on countback after a 4-4 draw in their final.

The Wade Deacon team included Ian Johnson, Michael Howard, Joshua McGiveron and Daniel Whalley.

Whalley picked up two victories with Howard and McGiveron claiming one each.

The team now progress to the area finals after Christmas.

Wade Deacon U13s lost 5-3 to Bishops High of Chester in their final.

The line-up comprised Matthew McCormick (two wins) John Ryan-Warwick (one), Daniel McEvoy and

Daniel Quinn.

The championships were organised by Ian Willesdon, Cheshire Schools Table Tennis secretary, assisted by Frank James and Carol McCormick of Halton.

* The Cheshire Schools Individuals for U11s, U13s, U16s and U19s in full-time education will take place in the New Year.
